Why I Walked the Camino de Santiago

January 23, 2019

I’ve written about a lot of things on this blog over the past three years, but I’m not sure I’ve ever gone back to the basics and explained how I got here in the first place. The snow in the Pacific Northwest is mostly gone, and it's time to start planning new travel adventures! I'll be sharing my story of walking a thousand miles on the #CaminodeSantiago this Saturday morning at @savvytraveleredmonds in Edmonds. I'll talk about hiking this historic trail in France and Spain, share some photos, sign some books, and answer as many questions as you bring. See you there? @mtnbooks #walkingtotheendoftheworld #authorsofinstagram #booktour #caminodesantiago #caminofrances #viapodiensis #explorespain #womenwhotravel #seattle #optoutside #traveltalk #travelwriter #womenonadventures #talesfromthetrail #thruhiking #slowtravel #hiketheworld #savvytraveler #hiketheworld #exploreonfoot #MondayMotivation #triptips #hikingadventures #walkinlove #stjamesway #theway #compostelle #wayofstjames
Seals! All of my photos of the seals at Children's Pool Beach in San Diego look like big piles of rocks, but here's the proof that it was alive and wiggling and so much fun. I could have stayed for hours, but @bwallacelee wouldn't let me. - - #seals #sealbeach #babyseal #sandiego #californiaadventure #weekendhighlights #weekendgetaway #beachlife #california #harborseal #exploretheworld #findthebeauty #happyplace #lajolla #westcoastbestcoast
2 days of sun and cake and beaches, with 2 of my favorite people. More pics to come. - - #winterescape #wanderlust #californiaadventure #vitaminddeficiency #sandiego #travelgram #latergram #weekendgetaway #sunbreak #recharge #exploretheworld
I meet the nicest people on Instagram. Wishing you all a night of happy reading and warm fires, wherever you may be. #Repost @hiketheworldco ・・・ On this snowy, icy day, we’re taking the time to dry off our hiking boots and delve into @bethjusino’s “Walking to the End of the World.” We can’t WAIT to read about her journey on the Camino de Santiago and share some of her amazing story with our members. Stay tuned for an upcoming GIVEAWAY announcement! #optoutside #getoutside #hiking #trails #hikes #loveourplanet #hiketheworld #hiketheworldco #travel #travelgram #hikingadventures #nature #mountains #hikingbuddies #hikingbadass #takeahike #forest #hikingaddiction #grouphikes #traillove #communityhikes #thruhiking #caminodesantiago #snowmageddon #amreading #winterreads
As we settle into another night of #snowmageddon in Seattle, let's hear it for the shovelers who keep fighting back the tides. (You may recognize this particular shoveler, described in Walking to the End of the World as "pathologically helpful.") Poor guy, this new storm had filled all of those paths before we even left the office, so he'll be back tomorrow to do it all over again. This will stop eventually, right? @phinneyneighborhoodassociation - - #seattlesnow #phinneyridge #Seattle #greenwood #imarriedup #pna #snowday #shovelingsnow #snowmageddon2019 #thisguy #followhimanywhere #snow
It's still snowing in Seattle today, but I'm warm and fuzzy inside looking at these lovely pictures of last week's Adventure Uncorked event, hosted by Explorer X at Elsom Cellars. Ruth Dickey and I shared our individual stories of walking the Camino de Santiago while the crowd sipped wine and dreamed of warmer places. Ruth brought the heart and poetry, and I brought the maps and jokes (and plenty of books to sign).
