The Chickens of Santo Domingo de la Calzada

March 17, 2017

The town of Santo Domingo de la Calzada was bound to be one of my favorite stops on the Camino Frances, because I’m a sucker for a town with a good story, and Santo Domingo’s is a Camino classic. Like most good seven hundred-year-old legends, the details vary, but here’s the basic idea: A devout … More The Chickens of Santo Domingo de la Calzada

My Camino Shell Tattoo

October 20, 2016

Facebook, in its infinite wisdom and memory, reminded me last week that it’s already been “one year ago today” that I came home with my very first tattoo: my Camino shell. … More My Camino Shell Tattoo

Hail on the trail? Just for a few minutes, and worth it for the payoff view at the top.
With all of the unsettledness of the move, the work, the pandemic, and whatever else is going on, I keep forgetting to take pictures of what I've read before I return or loan them back out. Clearly, I'm not so good at this whole #bookstagram thing.
Exploring my new neighborhood, and discovering the peacefulness of a cemetery full of flowers.
I'm still over here unpacking boxes of books and settling into the new place, but have to stop for a moment of #gratitude for the readers who are finding and sharing this story. And look at that sweet sleeping face in the background!
If you've been following my stories recently, you know that we moved this week. It was only a mile and a half...we don't even have to change grocery stores. But I'm learning that packing and unpacking is a lot harder in my 40s than it was in my 20s. Things have felt disrupted all week. But still, there are small things to celebrate: the cat who's gradually getting braver and discovering her new views, and the way that my stained glass from @bluefishglassstudios is a perfect fit for a south-facing window, and the great Belgian-inspired tap list at our new local brewery @lanternbrewing.
One shot down.
